As espécies tratadas foram: Aspidosperma parvifolium A. DC.; Forsteronia leptocarpa (Hook. & Arns.) A. DC.; Himatanthus lancifolius (Müll. Arg.) Woodson; Mandevilla fragrans (Stadelm.) Woodson; Mandevilla sp.; M. moricandiana (A. DC.) Woodson; M. tenuifolia (J.C. Mikan) Woodson; Prestonia coalita (Vell.) Woodson; Rhabdadenia pohlii Müll. Arg.; Tabernaemontana flavicans Willd. ex Roem. & Schult.; T. laeta Mart. Os grãos de pólen foram tratados pelo método da acetólise láctica, medidos, descritos e ilustrados sob microscopia de luz e microscopia... |

The antioxidant capacity of the crude extract and fractions ofTabernaemontana catharinensis fruits and branches, was evaluated by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method and the content of polyphenols, flavonoids, alkaloids and condensed tannins were determined by the spectrophotometric method. The ethyl acetate fraction of the fruits and the n-butanol fraction of the branches showed IC50 of 181.82 µg/mL and 78.19 µg/mL, respectively. All fractions were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), in the branches were quantified chlorogenic acid in the chloroform (8.96 mg/g), ethyl acetate (4.31 mg/g) and n-butanol (3.33 mg/g) fractions; caffeic acid in the ethyl acetate (5.24 mg/g) and n-butanol (1.81 mg/g); gallic acid (0.52 mg/g)... |

The genus Alyxia is revised for Continental Asia and Malesia as the first part of a complete revision of the genus. Intergeneric and infrageneric relationships are discussed, as are the morphological characters for the whole genus. Problematic species and areas in need of further study are highlighted. Keys and descriptions for the species are given. 69 species are recognised of which 12 are newly described. These new species are Alyxia celebica, A. globosa, A. graciliflora, A. kwalotabaa, A. lackii, A. longiloba, A. manusiana, A. minutiflora, A. muguma, A. papuana, A. uniflora and A. vera. |

The genus Alyxia is revised for Australia and the islands of the Pacific Ocean as the second and final part of a complete revision of the genus. 39 species are recognised for this area of which three are new to science, two are new combinations and one is a new name. 14 species are found in Australia and its offshore territories, 21 species in New Caledonia and the Loyalty Islands, and seven species in the other islands of the Pacific. There is relatively little overlap between regions: two species are found in Malesia and Australia; one species is found in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands; one species in Vanuatu and New Caledonia; and A. stellata is found in Australia, New Caledonia and into the Pacific as far as Hawaii and Henderson Island. Keys and... |

ABSTRACT Three new species of Marsdenia (Apocynaceae) are described from Brazil: M. paganuccii, known from two disjunct populations, one in the Caatinga of Bahia and other in the Atlantic Forest of Espírito Santo; M. paraibana, restricted to the Restinga of Cabedelo National Forest in the Atlantic Forest of Paraíba; and M. trisegmentata, known from two populations in Caatinga, one in Bahia and other in Ceará. Illustrations, a geographic distribution map and comparisons with morphologically similar species are also presented for each species. |

This study contributes to our understanding of the phylogenetic signifi cance and major evolutionary trends in the wood of the dogbane family (Apocynaceae), one of the largest and economically most important angiosperm families. Based on LM and SEM observations of 56 Apocynoideae species — representing all currently recognized tribes — and eight Periplocoideae, we found striking differences in vessel grouping patterns (radial multiples vs. large clusters) between the mainly nonclimbing apocynoid tribes (Wrightieae, Malouetieae, Nerieae) and the climbing lineages (remaining Apocynoideae and Periplocoideae). The presence of large vessel clusters in combination with fibers in the ground tissue characterizing the climbing Apocynoideae and Periplocoideae... |

Wood anatomical studies in the economically important Apocynaceae or dogbane family are fragmentary. This study represents a first attempt to unravel the phylogenetic signifi cance and major evolutionary trends in the wood of the family, using existing and new microscopic wood observations within the large subfamily Rauvolfi oideae. On the basis of LM and SEM observations of 91 species representing all 10 currently recognized tribes, we found that most of the tribes are characterized by a unique combination of wood characters, such as vessel grouping, vessel element length, fi ber type, frequency of uniseriate rays, and fused multiseriate rays. Climbing rauvolfi oid taxa can generally be distinguished from erect species by their wider vessels, tendency to... |
